The Montessori method is a groundbreaking, research-aligned, holistic approach to educating the whole child in service of a more just and peaceful world. In order to equip children with the foundational mathematical skills they need to pursue their cosmic tasks in today’s world, we must come together as a Montessori community to revisit the curriculum to understand: What’s missing from the Montessori mathematics curriculum for PK-6th grades? What should we do about it? How do we ensure that our solutions uphold the principles of Maria Montessori’s vision?

This resource lays out a step-by-step framework to collectively embark on answering these questions in a way that elevates and strengthens Montessori while creating environments where all children flourish.

A discussion of how to double down on our implementation of the “Montessori magic” in our classrooms
An analysis of the 5 Key Areas for Growth within the Montessori elementary mathematics curriculum
A deep dive into how Montessori For All has been attempting to address these areas for growth at Austin’s first free public Montessori school since 2014, including:
A standard-by-standard analysis of which Montessori materials meet each of the Common Core standards and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in grades 1st-6th
Proposed Scope & Sequence Pacing Guides for 1st-3rd and 4th-6th grades organized into 6-week blocks, including missing Key Lessons and lesson extensions in order to meet the standards (PK-K is organized into half-year increments)
Beginning of Year diagnostic assessments to measure mastery of important prerequisite skills
