Montessori Writing Album: Unit 4 Playwriting
Step-by-step lessons to grow strong writers in the Lower Elementary (1st-3rd grade) classroom. Unit 4 includes three weeks of instruction for a Writing Workshop group (2 lessons per week) and a Shared Writing group (1 lesson per week) focused on applying the Writing Cycle to the process of writing plays. This comprehensive unit plan includes scripted lessons, sample writing pieces, rubrics, and handouts. Montessori For All will publish one unit per month for the entire 2024-25 school year. Other units include research reports, letters, persuasive writing, fiction stories, etc.
Unit 4 deepens work with the Writing Cycle through narrative plays. Children choose which type of play to write (e.g., fantasy, realistic, historical, etc.) and whether to create costumes, props, sets, etc. They will be highly engaged while learning foundational writing skills. It can be adapted for use with 4th-6th graders.
